It was exciting to learn our good friend, Scott, was due to be released from rehab after suffering for four months in the hospital with severe pancreatitis. But there was still one catch. Scott needed a wheelchair ramp at his house before he could go home. My brother Knights, at St. Edwards Parish, Council 15841in Jeffersontown KY, embraced the idea and enthusiastically rose to the “Build a W/CR4Scott” challenge. Our project really flourished when our new Brother Knight, Kevin, recruited his lifelong friends, the St Edward Scout Dads, to partner with the Knights. Together, we had the tools, knowledge, and energy, to design and build the W/CR4Scott in just a couple of weeks. Thanks to our brother Knights who showed up to build the ramp, including Mike, Tom O., Jim, Tom M., Ken, Charlie, and Kevin, along with the St. Edward Scout leaders, Raymond & Jennifer, Michael, Tony, Brad, and Scott’s neighbor, Brian, and our young adult volunteers who donated valuable community service hours by carrying lumber, driving screws, and hauling away trash, all while dodging angry bees, and enduring nasty stings.
Special thanks to Christy‘s Godmother, Claudette, who fed the crew delicious sandwiches, chips, cookies, to “The Bill Young Foundation” for financial support, and assistance from the City of Jeffersontown Public Works department and building divisions who helped provide information and advice about the permitting process and a culvert pipe for a new driveway. Christy and Scott, who just celebrated their 22nd anniversary, are thrilled to have such love and support from their family and friends. From your family and friends, welcome home, Scott!
