Donnie Potts helped found the St Edward Council #15841. Donnie was a Korean War Vet and was always interested in helping Vets and Soldiers.. He connected our Council and the Monsignor Bouchet Assembly with Operation Support Peace.
Operation Support Peace is an organization that helps support lower rank soldiers and their families. In the past, we have helped with Christmas gift drives for the soldiers’ children.
This past Christmas we received a request for gift cards for the soldiers’ spouses. They were usually forgotten so we raised $300 and purchased $10 gift cards for them.
About a month ago we received a call that school supplies were needed and that a contingent of soldiers were coming up to Louisville to pick up whatever we had. We were encouraged to bring what we had collected to St Stephen Anglican church. The soldiers would be demonstrating some of their gear so big and small kids were invited to try them on. St Edward Council collected about $280 and proceeded to purchase whatever was needed. We were told that some of the spouses were also teachers so some of the supplies would be used by them.
Attached are some pictures of some of the kids filling backpacks and trying on equipment.
