The fifth annual Easter Seals dance sponsored by four local councils of the Knights of Columbus was held on August 10th at the Knights of Columbus Hall in the St. John community near Paducah for participants in Easter Seals programs and other local organizations that support the mentally and physically challenged. In addition, the Sisters of Service (affiliate of the Daughters of Isabella) placed decorations on the walls and the main doorway for a grand entrance effect. The Paducah Charity League pitched in and provided photographic services for individual participants as well as group photographs, and served slices of the celebratory cake. Other volunteers served light snacks and refreshments.
The participants wore big smiles and danced like there was no tomorrow, and the boundless joy shared by both participants and volunteers was palpable!! What a fun evening for ALL!!
In addition, local TV celebrity Stefanie Martinez kicked up her heels on the dance floor with many of the participants, which brought even more smiles. Ms. Martinez also stayed and helped with the cleanup.
The four councils in the Paducah area combined forces as follows: Msgr. Higdon Council 10962 (at St. John Parish) provided their facility free of charge for this service project; Msgr. Albert J. Thompson Council 10988 (at St. Pius X Parish in Calvert City) provided funds for decorations that were purchased and applied by the Sisters of Service; Divine Mercy Council 11591 (St. Thomas More, Paducah) provided funds for food and cake; and Holy Rosary Council 1055 (Jefferson St. Paducah) provided chaperones and setup/teardown of tables & chairs, and member Joe Weitlauf, owner of Total A/V Services, provided DJ music services free of charge. This program demonstrates the theme for the new fraternal year of 2018-19 for the Kentucky State Council of “Unity in Purpose, Unity in Action” at the District level. Historically this dance was held in February near Valentine’s Day, but another national organization offered to host the dance in February so that the Knights of Columbus could shift to the late summer / early fall season of the year. All arrangements were coordinated by Frank Bosh, former District Deputy and former State Family Director of the Kentucky Knights of Columbus, and a member of Council 1055 in Paducah.
