The 2017 Louisville Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) St. Patrick’s Coloring Contest was completed Saturday, March 11th through the sustained efforts of AOH and Knights of Columbus Brothers #10682 Shaun McKiernan, #14604 John O’Doyle & Patrick Ryan, and #15979 Bill Moriarity among many others. This was the 44th year for the AOH wax-crayon Coloring Contest for Louisville Archdiocese students. Sixteen 3rd, 2nd, & 1st place and Grand Prize Winners were chosen from over 5,000 Kindergarten through 4th Grade student entries. Six 1st place and Grand Prize International Student Winners were chosen from over 120 entries. The USA Contest Winners were presented with their original drawing in a 8″ x 10″ picture frame along with a “Coloring Contest Winner” T-shirt following Saturday, March 11th Noon Mass at St Louis Bertrand Catholic Church concelebrated by Archbishop Kurtz and Reverend Edward Gorman, O.P. The Grand Prize winners also received a $100 Check. Later that same day the USA Contest Winners and their Parents, escorted by Brother Bill Moriarity rode in the lead float of the Louisville St Patrick’s Parade to an enthusiastic cheering crowd estimated at over 30,000.
Double Star Council Award
Fr. Noel Zamora (first row, fourth from the left) of Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church in Morehead, Kentucky, presented the Double Star Award to Grand Knight Gary Trent (first row, fifth from the left) during the Sunday Mass sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Garvey, GHM Council # 16206 on the second anniversary of their establishment as a council. The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council awarded them this honor for meeting 225% of their annual goal. The Morehead Council is the only council in its district to receive the award this year.

Bavarian Ice Dancing
St. Margaret Mary KofC #15979 Brother David Elder’s children competed in the 2017 Bavarian Ice Dancing Open in Oberstdorf, Germany. Christopher, 15, and Sophia Elder, 13, were selected by the US Figure Skating Athlete HighPerformance Development Department to take part in the international ice dancing competition. Christopher is a sophomore at Trinity High School and Sophia is an eighth grader at St. Margaret Mary. Earlier this year, the duo won the bronze medal at the 2017 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Kansas City, Mo.
