Passing of brother knight Robby Higdon
At the 4th Degree Exemplification held in Clarkson on June 15, 2019 Robbie was the Class Honoree.
Robby Higdon became a Knight in 1998 joining Fr. Carroll White Council #6743 in Clarkson. Over the years, he has served in various capacities including Grand Knight on two occasions, earning the Star Council Award in 2018. Robby joined the Fourth Degree in 2006 and is a Charter member of Fr. McGivney Assembly #3021. During his term as Grand Knight in 2011, Robby was instrumental in working with the local community action council to fill a void when the local Shop-with-a-Cop program was no longer able to help underprivileged children at Christmas. Robby rallied the troops and Shop-with-a-Knight was born. This program is one of the council’s most impactful, and most rewarding to its members.
Outside of the Knights of Columbus, Robby is active with St. Paul Catholic School, assisting and leading many facility upgrade projects, and serves as a County Magistrate. Robby is a friend that anyone can count on when there is a need.
Robby married Nichole in 2003 and together raised five children. Robby and Nichole are very active with the Culture of Life, founding “Clear Choices”, a local crisis pregnancy center in 2012.
Robby and Nichole were chosen as the 2016 Kentucky Family of the Year. Below is part of the body of the write up sent to Supreme.
Robby became a member of the Knights of Columbus in 1998. Over time Robby has become more and more active in the council. Robby is a Past Grand Knight as well as the council’s newly-elected Grand Knight. During Robby’s first term as Grand Knight, the local family resource center was going to come up short with their “Shop with a Cop” program. Robby pledged the council’s support to the cause to provide Christmas presents to some of the less fortunate youth of the county and “Shop with a Knight”. Each child was teamed up with a Knight, shopping for clothes and toys totaling roughly $100. Over 60 children were supported that year and the program has grown steadily ever since with Robby chairing the event every year.
In addition to the Shop with a Knight program, Robby developed new council family activities including “Movie Knight”, where a family themed movie is played on the outside wall of the council hall in a Drive-In Movie fashion during the Knights of Columbus Family Week. Families were able to enjoy fellowship with each other by camping out on the council grounds after the movie. Programs like these made Robby a very popular and effective Grand Knight.
